We received an enquiry a few weeks before this event was being held, we managed to get all the details sorted times etc we require through the booking processes. As we were making sure all the times or any special requirements were needed etc they sent us a list of things they needed which isn’t uncommon as we sometimes have to resend all our documentation over such as
-£10 million public liability insurance
-The staff members CRB certificate
-5* Food hygiene rating
-level 2 certificate in food handling
plus all the usual paperwork you’d expect. This is when we got the request off of Liverpool Airport asking for passport information and other documentation for the staff members that were going to be at the event, this wasn’t a problem as we have had to do this in the past.
It slowly came round to the day of the job so the staff headed out to Liverpool Airport to be there at the time we had been told so we could pass security get all the passes and all the paperwork signed to allow them entry into the Liverpool Airport. Around 15 minutes after the office had the text saying they had arrived the staffs members started sending photos back to us and all of our faces dropped.
The van to travel to the hangar where the charity fun day was being held in one of the hangars had to drive onto the taxiway where all the departing holidaymakers and business people were getting ready to board their planes, the faces not only on ours and the staff in the van must have been a picture but from what they said the faces of the ground crew loading the planes and people looking out of the terminal faces looking like as they saw a Mr Whippy Ice Cream van trundling past the planes.
As they approached the hangar, Liverpool Airport already knew we needed a 32amp socket as we would be running off our electric system (more info here) and parked the van up inside the hangar that had been decorated for the event. From a brand new airport fire engine and other vehicles they use around the airport on display to a Mr Whippy Ice Cream van they had in the corner serving delicious treat to everyone, this one was definitely one of the job we wouldn’t be forgetting in a hurry.
It was an absolute pleasure doing this and being apart of a wonderful day to raise what hopefully was a lot of money for the selected charities Liverpool Airport work with.
